Can design be traditional and contemporary?
One had a preference for the extension to look modern from the outside and the other traditional. This led to a conversation about what a middle ground could look like and we showed them this beautiful project by Flower Michelin Architects.
We really like how the existing & traditional window arch has been used in a contemporary way to create the extension.
The same is true of the brick, a traditional material which also features on the existing house around the windows and corners, but again used in a contemporary way in the extension with different brick patterns.
Off-white Portland Stone is used for the column between the two doors and below the window and this matches the patio and brickwork jointing.
All considered together, we think this is a great example of how design can be traditional, contemporary and timeless.
